For the 14th edition of the Syli d’Or de la musique du monde awards, the Conseil des arts de Montréal is pleased to join forces with Productions Nuits d’Afrique for a second consecutive year and announce that Lara Klaus has won the Coup de coeur CAM-Syli award valued at $8,000. The award aims to provide exceptional visibility for a collective of professional musicians reflecting Montreal’s cultural diversity.
A Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and educator, Lara Klaus explores her art through guitar, voice and different combinations of percussion instruments, from drums to various African instruments. Her compositions reflect her close communion with Brazilian composers, and her main influences are the music of northeastern Brazil, American soul and Afro-Latin sounds. Lara Klaus has taken part in major music festivals around the world, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the Samba Festival in Germany.
This year’s Coup de coeur CAM-Syli award comes with a $3,000 purse as well as creation and recording support valued at $5,000, which includes a $1,775 creation grant, artistic advisor fees, two days’professional recording studio time with a technician, and mixing and mastering.
The Conseil des arts de Montréal wishes to congratulate Lara Klaus and wishes her great success with her future projects.
