Congratulations to Ketsmy, the winner of the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s Public Choice Award at the 15th Syli d’Or de la Musique du Monde awards gala, presented by Productions Nuits d’Afrique.
The singer-songwriter-composer hails from a Haitian family and blends Creole, French and English to bring us songs with poignant, engaged lyrics that denounce the social injustices facing racialized people. With his dance rhythms and a voice that’s blessed with incomparable soul, Ketsmy takes music lovers on a journey from R&B to hip-hop, blues rock, Afrobeat and just about everything in-between.
“For 15 years, the Syli d’or de la Musique du Monde awards have played a critical role in Montréal’s artistic scene, providing a launch pad for artists’ careers and an outstanding professional showcase devoted to world music in all its forms.
“At the Conseil des arts de Montréal, our main focus is giving a platform to the artists that make our city so vibrant and the incredible diversity of their artistic practices. For those reasons and so many more, we are of course extremely proud to support the Public Choice Award, which includes a $5,000 cash prize and the production of an audio track, valued at $3,000.”
