The Conseil des arts de Montréal, in partnership with Vie des arts magazine, is pleased to announce its very first winner of the Prix Polygone en arts visuels: Jean-Pierre Mot.
The only one of its kind in Montreal, this award recognizes an artist or artists’ collective whose practice explores avenues of research that are little represented in the current visual arts network, and which have the potential to fuel debate and change our aesthetic and social reference points. This award is accompanied by a $10,000 grant from CAM.
A nomadic artist, Jean-Pierre Mot is distinguished by a sprawling practice that spans ready-made, collage, video, performance and digital art. His work reveals a complex universe rich in visuals, weaving unexpected links between objects, forms, narratives and materials. An underlying poetry not devoid of humor runs through his approach.
Jean-Pierre Mot was selected for his ability to push back the boundaries of contemporary art and create works that question and inspire.
