The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and the Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM), in collaboration with Culture Montréal, are pleased to announce $457,000 in support for 21 organizations as part of the Environmentally Responsible Production, Dissemination, Promotion and Consolidation component of the Programme de partenariat territorial en lien avec la collectivité de l’île de Montréal. This component is designed to support environmentally responsible projects involving partnership initiatives.

Description of funded projects

Aluma

Aluma is receiving $25,000 to carry out Cap sur le fleuve, a puppeteer-manned sailing trip from Montréal to Saguenay. At each stop, the sailor-puppeteers will disembark with their spectacular shows and mediation workshops to delight the public.

Atelier La Coulée

Atelier La Coulée is getting $30,000 for research into the production of environmentally and socially responsible materials for community-based artistic activities involving lost-wax casting.

ATSA

ATSA will receive $25,000 to bring scientists together to assess the environmental value of digital data with the creation and presentation of La Ferme, ou comment nourrir un futur intelligent, an exploration of artificial intelligence in our lives.

Conteurs à gages

Conteurs à gages has been awarded $30,000 to produce the environmental storytelling show Contes et légendes de Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie.

Eastern Bloc

Eastern Bloc will receive $25,000 to develop a socio-ecological transition plan and study the potential impact of remotely integrated technologies on the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions and production and creative habits.

Écoscéno

Écoscéno will obtain $25,000 for the implementation and distribution of a shared inventory tool to support an organizational transition to management practices geared to environmentally responsible and economical materials.

Les Compagnons Baroques

Les Compagnons Baroques has been awarded $20,000 for the creation and performance of Apostas(I)e, an environmentally themed show at the crossroads of fiction and documentary theatre.

FTA

FTA is receiving $10,000 to co-develop a practical guide to eco-design with its partners and promote its use by artists and designers working with partner associations.

Le Monastère

Le Monastère is receiving $20,000 to create a green development plan for its Le Jardin performance venue in order to present circus performances year-round, equip other venues and encourage artists and audiences in their eco-responsible transition.

Les précieuses fissures

Les précieuses fissures has been awarded $25,000 to consolidate its environmentally friendly approach through three separate projects corresponding to the stages of creation, production and presentation.

Le Vivier

Le Vivier will obtain $20,000 for its green consolidation of Le Vivier and Vox Populi’s new shared venue, Sainte-Hilda, in a virtuous circle of sharing and dialogue with residents living near the green alleyway.

 

Metropolis bleu

Metropolis bleu is receiving $5,000 to hold an ecological fiction writing competition across four universities to engage 18-to-30-year-olds in relation to climate change. Two $1,000 bursaries will be awarded, and podcasts with professional interpreters will be created.

Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental (NTE)

Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental (NTE) has been awarded $22,000 for the creation of Jardin, a show that questions the relationship between humans and the plant world. The composition of this garden will be inspired by community initiatives and issues facing the Centre-Sud neighborhood.

Oktoécho

Oktoécho is receiving $22,000 to present five concert-lectures where scientists will join artists to discuss environment-related topics. Audiences are invited to bring a mug to help themselves to coffee and tea on-site.

OPTICA

OPTICA will receive $15,000 to develop sustainable development policies and action plans for three arts organizations, the OPTICA centre, MOMENTA and Galerie B-312, with support from the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables.

Productions Onishka

Productions Onishka will receive $20,000 to design an aki-manifesto for the next seven generations (“aki” means “territory” in Anishinaabemowin), a roadmap for environmental stewardship and territorial protection, and an eco-friendly event (Indigenous Contemporary Scene).

Projet MÛ

Projet MÛ has been awarded $23,000 to create audio-narrative content that will enhance the experience of children, teachers and its team of interpreter-mediators as part of the artistic and community-based project Après Tout… il restera Nous.

Théâtre Aux Écuries

Théâtre Aux Écuries is receiving $17,000 to support the Écos-cool committee’s steps to raise awareness and share knowledge with new partners, develop a storage pool, and implement eco-responsible protocols in its workshops, benefiting a vast community.

Théâtre Déchaînés

Théâtre Déchaînés will receive $23,000 for the development of an eco-accessibility action plan, a concept that seeks to combine eco-responsibility and accessibility right from the start of the creative process and throughout its execution.

Teesri Duniya Theatre

Teesri Duniya Theatre has been awarded $25,000 to present a varied lineup of shows and activities at the Backyard Theatre, a new environmentally responsible open-air space

Toxique Trottoir

Toxique Trottoir will receive $30,000 to launch a new research and creation phase for the Un conte dans la glace project, which presents an eco-design approach to bioplastics, in partnership with Écoscéno and the Jardin botanique de Montréal.

Selection Process

All applications were reviewed by a committee of peers, formed by the CALQ, representing various artistic fields. Projects were selected on merit, based on their quality and fit for the program’s objectives.

About the Entente de partenariat territorial en lien avec la collectivité du territoire de l’île de Montréal

The Programme de partenariat territorial en lien avec la collectivité de l’île de Montréal is the result of a three-year agreement (2022–2025) between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Conseil des arts de Montréal, in collaboration with Culture Montréal, under which the sum of $1,130,000 has been invested to support projects that involve partnership initiatives on the island of Montréal.
