Montréal, September 15, 2024 – The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and their partners are unveiling four videos today that showcase the art projects that were selected as part of the seventh edition of the Cultural Bridges, From One Shore to the Other program.

The three works created over the last few months are the result of inspiring meetings and collaboration between artists, organizations, and citizens from Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM and from Laval and Terrebonne, in partnership with the Conseil des arts et de la culture de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

This collaborative approach between artists and citizens made it possible to center local communities in the creation process, helping artists draw inspiration from participant input and involvement.

Contes et légendes des Boisés de Laval, Conteurs à gages

Over eight weeks, Conteurs à gages organized six co-creation workshops in two woods in Laval, during which four original stories were written about the relationship of Laval residents with the surrounding forests.

The process was led by a team of two storytellers, one sound artist, one sound designer, one illustrator and two local storytellers. The project concluded last July at the Bois de l’Équerre with the presentation (performance) of the four stories created with the special performance of the two storytellers from Laval and the integration of sound landscapes. More performances are planned for October.

Sans toi[T], Janie & Marcio

Performer and choreographer duo Janie Richard and Márcio Vinícius Paulino Silveira planned to curate a dance show for the public by including dance students from the Terrebonne region in one of the creative phases. Their work, Sans toi[T], is about the absence of someone as well as the symbolism of the roof that brings people together and offers shelter. This work draws on experiences and memories from gatherings around a table, where people from different backgrounds are invited to share their stories.

Co-creator students were given the chance to present their work during a performance of the show at the Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne last May.

FUTURS RÉCIPROQUES, Emmanuel Jouthe | Danse Carpe Diem

Emmanuel Jouthe | Danse Carpe Diem (EJ|DCD) organized FUTURS RÉCIPROQUES, a co-creation dance project that brought together a group of seniors from Pincourt and group of Arts-Études students (in the theatre stream) from the Cité-des-Jeunes secondary school and helped them create solos. By connecting with the EJ|DCD team, this project has transmitted artistic passion through creativity, exchange, autonomy, and physical and mental health.

Participants were asked use movement to respond to themes related to the preservation of time that has yet to come. After dancing and being filmed, each young person’s solos were projected into the hands of an elder, and vice versa, thanks to devices from the MIRAGES project. The very first presentation of the work took place last April at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Arts and Culture Council.
