The Conseil is proud to announce that Amrita Choudhury has won the 2024 edition of the Envol Award which comes with a $10,000 grant. Awarded in collaboration with the Prix de la danse de Montréal, this prize celebrates the multiple artistic practices and expressions of Montreal’s cultural diversity in dance.
The jury was keen to highlight Amrita Choudhury’s exceptional achievements as a performer, choreographer and teacher. Recognized for her unifying artistic work and deep commitment to the community, she has forged lasting ties with diverse artists and communities. For 35 years, Amrita has transcended technique to express a humanity in harmony with the sacred environment that surrounds us.
Driven by a philosophy of life inspired by her Indian origins, she transmits ancestral artistic wisdom through a practice imbued with empathy, humility, dialogue and openness. Respect for Mother Earth, the land and the principle of interdependence are at the heart of her artistic approach.
