Montreal, September 26 2022 — Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM), in collaboration with Culture Montréal, are pleased to announce $335,000 in funding for 17 organizations through the Environmentally Responsible Production, Dissemination, Promotion and Consolidation component of the Programme de partenariat territorial en lien avec la collectivité de l’île de Montréal. This component aims to support environmentally responsible projects that involve partnership initiatives.
The organizations selected for project support are: Théâtre Aux Écuries (theatre), Casteliers (theatre), Storytellers (literature and storytelling), Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival (literature and storytelling) and AfroMonde Foundation (multidisciplinary), Groupe Molior (digital arts),Le Monastère (circus arts), Les Compagnons Baroques (theatre), Les précieuses fissures (theatre), L’imprimerie, centre d’artistes (visual arts), LIVART (visual arts), Marguerite à bicyclette (circus arts), Mouvement Climat Montréal (circus arts), Nuits d’Afrique (music) PME-ART(multidisciplinary arts), Porte Parole (theatre) and Théâtre du Portage (theatre).
Selection process
Project titles and funding awarded to each project are listed in the document attached. Applications were analyzed by peers working in various artistic disciplines, in a committee convened by CALQ. Projects were selected based on their merit, excellence, and how well they responded to program objectives.

The Entente de partenariat territorial en lien avec la collectivité du territoire de l’île de Montréal reflects a three-year agreement (2022-2025) between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Conseil des arts de Montréal, in collaboration with Culture Montréal. $1,000,000 has been made available for projects that formally involve partnership initiatives on the island of Montréal.

Description of projects selected for funding
- Théâtre Aux Écuries (theatre) will receive $20,000 to support Éco-Cools committee initiatives to train artists in ecoresponsibility and ecodesign.
- Casteliers (theatre) is awarded $15,000 for the eco-responsible consolidation of the Maison internationale des arts de la marionnette (MIAM) and Casteliers.
- Conteurs à gages (literature and storytelling) will receive $20,000 to create a collection of citizen-sourced ecological tales: Contes et légendes du Nord des possibles.
- Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival (literature and storytelling) will receive $7,800 for Metropolis Bleu Vert 2023, which includes two new eco-responsible initiatives.
- AfroMonde Foundation (multi-disciplinary) is awarded $16,000 to lead the AfroMonde Festival’s green transition while promoting intercultural exchange through the arts.
- Groupe Molior (digital arts) will receive $25,000 for a series of collaborative workshops and public events: L’art et les sciences pour un avenir écoresponsable.
- Le Monastère (circus arts) is awarded $9,700 for the organization’s green transition and to integrate eco-responsible practices into its activities.
- Les Compagnons Baroques (theatre) is awarded $8,000 for its research project on paring back dramatic structures and elements, scheduled to take place in Montreal in fall 2022.
- Les Fissures (theatre) will receive $15,000 for set and costume design for the interdisciplinary play Sportriarcat, in partnership with Ecoscéno.
- L’imprimerie, centre d’artistes (visual arts) is awarded $25,000 for a research project on environmentally responsible artistic practices in print media and photography.
- LIVART (visual arts) will receive $25,000 for a group exhibition on upcycling in the arts, in collaboration with La Mine urbaine.
- Marguerite à bicyclette (circus arts) is awarded $28,000 for a research project on the creation and ecodesign of the outdoor circus show La crinoline aux chapeaux.
- Mouvement Climat Montréal (circus arts) will receive $25,000 for a local tour of the eco-friendly show Branché.
- Nuits d’Afrique (musique) is awarded $20,000 to elaborate their sustainable development objectives in partnership with the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsable (CQEER).
- PME-ART (multidisciplinary arts) will receive $25,000 to help the organization carry out their inclusive artistic collaborations, productions and tours with a reduced carbon footprint.
- Porte Parole (theatre) is awarded $25,000 to initiate their green transition as they create the play Polytechnique.
- Théâtre du Portage (theatre) will receive $25,000 to go green in creating their mask theatre productions for adolescent audiences, Plastique and L’après.
