Financing a cultural real estate project
The Conseil has set up a wide range of resources designed to support artists and artistic organizations regarding the challenges of precariousness and preservation of artists’ workshops in our metropolis.
Introduction
Who is eligible to apply?
Professional artists working in visual arts and craft arts who occupy an artist’s studio in a non-residential building to produce original works of research or expression.
What are the program objectives?
The objective of this partnership between the Service de la culture de la Ville de Montréal and the Conseil des arts de Montréal is to provide financial support to artists who rent or own a studio space in a non-residential building (or part of a building) to give them an appropriate creative space.
The grant paid by the City of Montréal is provided under section 92 of the Municipal Powers Act (R.S.Q., chapter C-47.1).
Support
What type of assistance is provided?
- $13 per square metre is allocated for creative spaces ($5.38/m2 from the City of Montréal and $7.62/m2 from the Conseil)
- $3 per square metre for storage

One year

What are the general eligibility criteria?
be a professional visual arts or arts and crafts artist, tenant or owner of a studio space in a non-residential building (or part of a building)
Applications
How can I submit an application?
Through the website of the City of Montréal. Each applicant only needs to submit one application and, if eligible, will receive the grant in two instalments corresponding to the contributions of the City of Montréal and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. Members of the Conseil team will then contact the artists eligible for the program to gather any information needed to complete their files, including their social insurance number.
What information and documents must I include in my application?
Each applicant must ensure that they have all the necessary elements before starting their application, including their supplier number and supporting documents (proof of professional status and occupation of the studio).
Payment
How will the grant be paid?
The grant is paid in two instalments, by direct deposit, to the artist’s bank account.
Visibility Standards and Logos
Arts organizations, collectives or individual receiving grant from the Conseil must mention this funding in their information, promotional, or advertising material.
